All of my students are special learners. I teach Pre-K to 12th grade special needs students. My students range from the Autism spectrum, to mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, to profound to severe mental and physical disabilities. As an Adaptive Art Teacher, my job is to adapt the art curriculum to meet the differentiated needs of my students. I travel to 8 different schools in Metro Atlanta, Ga. Most of my schools are Title 1, which means my students receive free breakfast and free lunch. It also means they face challenges that we cannot even imagine. When students use art projects to reinforce other disciplines, they become more excited about learning! Every student, PreK to 12th grade, learns to use art materials and techniques--from painting to printmaking, ceramics to fiber arts--with interdisciplinary lessons incorporating art history, criticism, literacy, science, technology, engineering, and math.
