Many of my students struggle with being able to focus in class. It is a high school special education math class, so they need to focus to understand the material and be ready for the next steps. These sensory and fidget tools will help the students get out some of their energy or provide the sensory feedback they need in the classroom. We will use the music stands to provide stand up desks so that students who can't sit down at that time have the ability to continue on with their work. Others will use the carpet squares to sit on the floor and do their work using clipboards. Whatever they need to succeed in the class.
Some of my classes have filled all the desks and tables, so noise and general crowded conditions make things difficult for students with ADHD, anxiety, and other issues. Currently, students don't have a good way to get out their energy or need for stimulus. We don't have a budget for these types of aids, so I try to make do with things I can create or re-purpose. My students need both the items designed to help students and in enough quantity so that everyone who needs a sensory object, standing desk, or carpet square can get one.
