I want to give my students a class set of the amazing novel, Clean Getaway, by Nic Stone. It’s an engaging read with opportunities to discuss family, truth and self discovery. With these high-interest and current books, my students will be engaged in reading while being immersed in American History. This project will help to expand our collection of culturally responsive texts and allow students to see themselves reflected in literature in a positive way. When students feel connected to a text that is relevant to them, it helps to improve their reading comprehension and that is my goal, to have all students reading at or above grade level.
