My students are low income students who come from unsupportive homes. Most of them have failed academically, socially or behaviorally in previous school settings. Our school specializes in working with these at risk youth and gives maximum opportunities and options for students to achieve success. This demographic students are in need of constant, additional and individualized support in order to succeed. Many of these students only get meals while at school and spend their evenings working or babysitting younger children. Many of their guardians work long hours at low wage jobs, and many lack skills and time to help their children with homework. My students are exceptionally grateful for anything they are given whether it is a simple granola bar, a smile, a book, or someone to talk to when they are having a hard day.
