My class average is 32 students in an on-level math class. My students suffer from overcrowded rooms and not enough supplies for each student. I do not have a class set of headphones or calculators. My students are so far behind in math that they rely on their scientific calculator to help them.
Headphones are also necessary for virtual learning. I have videos that I created of me teaching math lessons for my students. They watch them when they are not able to attend school due to absences or quarantine. Lots of times students aren't able to keep up with their work during distance learning or when they are out sick. When they return they can't keep up with what we are doing in class until they have watched the instructional video. Also, when I am absent students can continue with learning versus doing busy work. I leave a video of me teaching. In order for this to be possible, I need a class set of headphones for students to watch my video and not disrupt others with their sound, I currently only have 10. I love that students can pause and copy notes and go at their own speed.
Additionally, in order to be a technology-equipped class, I need a functioning mobile device. My current Chromebook is 5 years old and doesn't work well. The school district does not provide Chromebooks to teachers. When we go on distance learning it is extremely necessary for me as the teacher to be able to respond to students quickly and help students when needed. Having a mobile device helps me do this and not be tied to my desktop which is often not possible due to meeting or having to be at home.
