In offering an Instrument Exploration unit this spring, students were able to discover their own talents, be surprised at the weight or challenges of each instrument, and to get excited about newly discovered abilities. This year, all 96 students in 4th & 5th grades got actual hands-on learning about the core instruments in the band! We also discovered that we needed real drums to experience (we used buckets), good reeds to use, and tools to really explore pitch and time with metronome/tuners. We want to have tools in all the young hands!
