Students at my middle school are 99% African American and are 99% free/reduced lunch. The school was closed down 3 years ago and reopened under a new administration and teaching staff. Students are enthusiastic learners who work hard and benefit from a team of staff members that work all hours of the day and weekends to create a culture of learning and stability for students. Students have access to different arts electives including a computer design class, visual art and band. Band has an extensive history that ranges back to a thriving marching program. Right now band is the only type of music class offered to students. Students gain exposure to band for a semester per year.
