The students of this DC public school are young people who enjoy reading, but only materials they are interested in or books that do not intimidate them because of difficult reading levels. Though they may not be the best readers, with reading levels in the 4.5-7.0 range, they frequent the library. Nearly all of these young people love and ask for graphic novels. They talk about the vivid colors used in the graphics and that the pictures enhance their understanding of the story's plot. These books seem to address their reading levels and their interest. In fact, this intrigue with graphic novels is so intense that once they complete the six books offered in the school's library, or those I borrow from one of the city's libraries, they turn to the internet to fill their insatiable desire. A great deal of the young people are interested in all genres offered in the graphic format, such as myths, Shakespeare, classics, superheros and Japanese novels.
