The titles and authors were carefully selected with two specific purposes in mind. As a teacher in a new grade level, I chose most books with the hopes of growing our classroom library. In my experience, both eager and reluctant readers gravitate toward genres and authors with which they are familiar. The series sets will give readers confidence through familiarity and foster relationships with the characters, encouraging and motivating them to simply READ. I also selected several of the books to serve as mentor text to emphasize a specific skill as guided by our state standards. When students are able to connect reading skills within text, the lesson becomes more engaging, authentic, and meaningful.
