Our school is a small middle college/charter school in Oklahoma. Our students are primarily Hispanic (78.8%), low-income, and eager to change their futures through education. Almost 75% of our students will be the first to graduate high school while 83% will be first generation college students. Several years ago, we decided to offer a video yearbook. With most yearbooks, there is a minimum order of 3 times the size of our school at a cost of $3000 or more! We used to have a complete video editing set-up (computers, cameras, software) until the district we used to be a part of decided to close our school. Our school was saved by a local charter school, but we lost everything else: laptop carts, textbooks, technology. The transition has allowed us to expand our vision. We,the students and teachers, are taking chances and making changes. With over 45% of our juniors and seniors in college classes, we are trying to change the face of education for the better.
