My students are energetic young people with an interest in making a positive impact in their neighborhood and the environment. They are curious and sometime naive about the where fruits and vegetables come from. Last school year was the first time students got to experience the seed to fruit life cycle in our garden. They were very proud that their hard work and nurturing attention to the garden that produced a bountiful harvest. Kindergarteners proudly carried zucchinis on their shoulders and sixth grades were elated to take school grown tomatoes home to share with their families. Their tough neighborhoods and inner city surrounding suddenly diminished as they watched and experienced the wonder of life they cared for in their school yard. During the summer, children continued to visit the gardens and share the wonder they created with their families. The garden is a place to plant positive memories that will continue to grow and flourish from generation to generation.
