Books are our main means of learning about the world at large and all the different ways in which people can make the world a better place. As an educator of primary students, my goal is to inspire a sense of wonder, curiosity and enthusiasm around reading and writing. One way I can do this is to provide an ample selection of books in my library for students to discover. The books that I am requesting were thoughtfully added to the list because they affirm and celebrate the interests, cultures, and aspirations of my students. Most have been nationally recognized as important pieces of work by various medals such as the Coretta Scott King Book Award, the Belpre Medal, the Newberry Medal, or the Caldecott Medal.
