My students live in a very low economic area, within the City of New York. Their parents are immigrants who come to the US for work. They live in one bedroom apartments, with extended family, many to a bed. They cannot play outdoors, because it is unsafe to be on the street. Despite their undesirable living circumstances, these children come to school with smiles. They love to learn. They love the friendship of their peers, and they love to have a place where they feel safe.

About my class
