My students attend an inner city school. They live in one of the poorest neighborhoods. They are survivors. Over sixty-eight percent of my students are second language learners, and they are struggling to learn a new language. But they are motivated to learn and very interested in what each lesson will bring to their lives. In addition, their families have very few resources to support them. Many live in poverty. I am very glad that they think school is more fun than their homes, and many of my students prefer coming to school simply because they get better meals at school. These students lack many things, but they have dreams. Their eyes tell me, "I'm ready. Take me somewhere. Show me how."
