I would like the opportunity to attend the North American Reggio Emilia Alliance (NAREA) winter conference. Reggio Emilia-inspired educational philosophy recognize the ability and rights of children to learn and express their learning in a multitude of ways, often through long-term projects. I have been inspired by this philosophy to help my students reflect on their learning process, which helps them to learn even more! The conference is titled DEFENDING THOUGHTFUL LEARNING, HUMAN COMPETENCE, AND CREATIVE DIGNITY, and I will meet with early childhood educators talking about how to help children see themselves as confident and empowered, and as competent contributors to their own learning. The conference is linked with an exhibit about the relationship between drawings, materials, words and thoughts. This exhibit will give me a new perspective on early literacy, which I will use to provide even more inspired learning experiences for my students, and to help me to consider more perspectives when designing literacy/learning experiences, promoting both access and agency in the life of my preK classroom.
