My students really are awesome and amazing- they are that legendary class everyone remembers and rages over. Coming from a different school and having the honor to get a group like this in their second year teaching is very motivating and encouraging. I have 2- 5th grade classes of 24 each, as they have me 1/2 of the day and then their English/SS teacher the 2nd half of the day, and work closely with another 5th grade Spanish teacher who has 21 students. 75% come from Low income families, with 59% percent English Language Learners. We have free breakfast and lunch to help ease the hard lives they may have outside of school. It is a great environment for them to continue to keep their mother language or learn a second language, as well as learning their ancestral traditions and so much more. That being said, I have a variety of learners and want to encourage all of them at their appropriate reading level, to find the pleasure and power of reading.
