My kindergarteners are beginning to blossom into young writers. They have their own stories to tell and are eager to do so. During Writer's Workshop we explore a variety of genres- from writing narratives, to constructing persuasive pieces, creating how to books that teach our audience and even writing informational texts. In order to best support my students during writing time, we incorporate the use of mentor texts into our mini lessons. Mentor texts are used to help students study literature and then serve as a model for their own writing. This project will provide my class, as well as future kindergarten classes, with a collection of mentor texts to utilize during each of our writing units. This collection of mentor texts will be used explicitly during Writer's Workshop. Such texts will help support and provide my students with examples and ideas for their own writing pieces
