I teach students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade who have a mild disability that causes them to need additional support to be successful in the general education classroom. Their disabilities range from autism to language impairment to developmental delay and sometimes a combination of these. Skill deficits include reading fluency and comprehension, math fluency and calculation, written expression, social delays and expressive or receptive language delays. My students typically struggle to keep up with the demands in their classroom and receive services from exceptional education staff to bridge the gap for them. We focus on closing the gap in their skill deficit area so they can learn. The majority of my students come from low income families and our school is a Title I school. Our school is warm and inviting. The teachers and staff are like family to each other. We love our students. They are like our own children.
