The 5th graders at our school in Nevada are competing in a Soapbox Derby Design Challenge. The soap box derby cars each need 1 lazy Susan bearing for steering, 2 axles and 4 wheels with good bearings. Ever since the TESLA plant became a reality, here in Nevada, I have consistently reminded my students that Elon Musk is going to be looking for the best mathematicians and engineers. Many of my kids believe that they can design cars when they grow up. In fact, when we decided on this project, they were so excited to begin designing cars right now! Our cars are going to be designed to efficiently slice through the air cruising to victory.

About my class
