Writing and visual planning are essential parts of art making. With access to personal sketchbooks, my students will be able to experience the power of the creative process, planning and executing projects that they could not plan and execute without a space to document their thinking. Personal sketchbooks will also allow my students to realize their potential as independent thinkers and art makers, to see themselves as artists in a studio, not just students in a classroom. Documenting their work in a personal sketchbook will allow my students to direct their learning by brainstorming, selecting, and refining ideas in their own space, in their own way, on their own time. Quality sketchbooks are expensive and many of my students cannot afford to buy school supplies, much less additional supplies just for art class. Your donation will provide students with a safe creative space and help us as a school as we work to bridge the achievement gap.
