My students are loving, caring, inquisitive, and full of potential, ranging in age from 10-12 years old. Some of my students have a spark for education and desire to learn more, while some are hesitant about learning because they have not been very successful in the classroom thus far. Research suggests that if students' standardized test scores are below proficiency in elementary school that they are at high risk of not completing high school. About 2/3 of my class was not proficient on their state test last year. About 1/3 of my class receives special education services and 2 of my students are highly functioning autistic. Additionally, the entire class has a wide-range of needs that require much attention and differentiation. It can be difficult for one person to truly meet the needs of each individual student. My school is a title one elementary with 85% of the students receiving free/reduced lunch. With the exception of a few students, the whole school is African American and Latino.
