The students in my classroom are pulled from a very diverse population. Some students walk in the door with $100-$200 calculators and others struggle to bring in paper, pencils, and other basic school supplies. I have some classes where I see the diversity, but many of the classes I teach are lower level and pull mostly from the lower side of the economic continuum. The thing that I love about teaching the lower level students is watching their eyes light up when they learn something. These students become very loyal as you teach them because most of them have had bad experiences at school and when they start to learn, they are so thankful. I have watched failing students get A's and B's and build confidence as time goes by.
