I teach students with moderate to severe developmental disabilities between the ages of 18 and 22. Each student's program is focused on his/her goals and interests. Students work on building vocational skills (to be a productive member of society), independent living skills (to become as independent as possible), mobility skills (to learn to access their community), safety and self advocacy skills (to learn how to prevent and report abuse), and social and recreational skills (to get together with friends and stay active). We are fortunate to have access to a residential property where we can practice domestic skills such as cooking, doing laundry, washing dishes, and helping with household chores. Some of our students will graduate and live in a place of their own, with support. Others will remain living with their families/caregivers, but will hopefully find a new level of independence as a result of their education. My goal is to help each student find their independence.
