The books selected for this project represent diverse characters and situations that my students will be able to relate to. Many of the books that have been selected are award winners and highlighted for their diversity. One of the biggest shifts I want to make in my classroom library is that I want more books that my students can relate to. I have sought out books that I know my students will enjoy reading. I believe my students will learn more about themselves through these texts and they will also find joy in reading them. There is power in characters and situations that we relate to when we read. This connection to texts will help build enjoyment and passion for reading.
