The majority of my students come from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, are English Learners and have some type of learning disability. Many of my students are teen parents working hard to get their diplomas so they can provide a better life for their child. My students attend a full-day program, and the duration of a semester for most courses is nine weeks compared to 18. All students must complete coursework that satisfies the district's graduation requirements. The majority of my students are seniors trying to overcome the challenges in their home environment; to meet the demands needed to get their diploma. Our school is a continuation high school and serves eight comprehensive schools in the district. We are a Title I school and approximately 74% of our students participate in the free and reduced meal program and 60.8% are English Learners. Our districts initiatives include college and career readiness, academic interventions, and parent involvement.
