My students are future doctors, lawyers, athletes, authors, and leaders. They've named what they want for themselves in the future, and we are working together each day to make those wants a reality. My students are currently struggling readers who generally do not have access to a multitude of books. They also have been discouraged due to low scores on standardized tests in reading. They have no idea how smart they are, how bright their futures will be, or how much of a leader they can be today. The school in which my students and I learn together needs funding for simple things like copy machines that do not break down everyday or a librarian to take care of the few books that still remain in the school media center. The situation is dire, but not hopeless. I know there are brilliant minds in my classroom waiting to be opened, but help is definitely needed.
