Many of my students do not have access to books outside of school. I want to make sure every student has a book in their hand every day. I am building our library to focus on grade level content standards, expose the students to the magic of STEM, and provide opportunities for my students to see themselves in the pages they read by collecting relevant and multicultural literature. These books will be used to model mini-lessons on comprehension, work as mentor texts for student writing, provide daily opportunities for students to read independently, and even build up an accessible lending library for students to take home and read on their own or with their family. These books will help students make real world connections and provide exposure to relevant topics and content. Having a classroom library full of diverse and relevant books will help foster a love of reading.
