This project has allowed for the students to each have the chance to understand the features of a text, how to care for a book, and why taking care of our things is important. The two major learning points we focused on were making inferences and predictions while also using the text to find and support answers that were asked of them.\r\n In our classroom reading from a novel for sustained periods of time is unfortunately a new concept for many of them so we did all of our reading as a class. We would take turns reading aloud between the students and myself. I believe it is important for students to hear what fluent reading sounds like inorder to build their reading abilities. Often times they want me to read as they enjoy the way I read to them. They say it brings the story alive and allows for them to create images in their mind more easily. \r\n The most amazing part about this experience for me was the moment I shared with my students we were going to begin a novel and handed them each their very own book. I had one student walk up to me, hug me and then tell me you really are the best! I just want to sincerely thank you for allowing me the opportunity to give my students the opportunity to feel valued and important! These moments are what instill a passion for reading and create life-long readers!","fullyFundedDate":1727998320807,"projectUrl":"project/holes-novel-study-set/8832052/","projectTitle":"Holes Novel Study Set","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ferry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8106993_orig.jpg?crop=2184,2184,x0,y145&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735945002442","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8106993"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_85212","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":356,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":83,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"17.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":57.9,"schoolId":85212,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Westwood Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Westwood Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/dayton-public-school-district/westwood-pre-k-8-school/85212"}
