My students are a group of 32 second graders that attend a turnaround school on the southeast side of Chicago. Students are reminded everyday that they are at school to get an education so they can make it to, and through, college to achieve their dreams. In my classroom, we support each other, no matter what. We build off of each other's strengths and weaknesses, and celebrate our differences. To encourage the mindset that my students will go to college, I even named their guided reading groups after BIG 10 schools. So in my classroom, some students are Spartans, Illini, Wildcats, and more. Additionally, at our school we believe that all students can achieve no matter what. We do not make assumptions and always set high expectations.
