This year I am taking the leap and transitioning my classroom to flexible seating. Over the past eight years of teaching years, I have noticed children shifting and folding into desks attempting to make them comfortable. It is not uncommon to find my students sitting on top of their desks, on the floor, and or needing to walk around the classroom. Moving into groups can be a nightmare with traditional student desks. Flexible seating also promotes mobility and flexibility in student grouping. The classroom should be a place where students are comfortable; it should be a place that is inviting and motivates children to put their best foot forward. My students need flexible seating and headphones. Having various seating options will give students the opportunity to put themselves in a place that stimulates their learning. Having these different seating options will give students safe seating , while allowing them to work with others in small groups.
