My students are always looking for books that they can relate to, books that give them strong role models, and books that can take them to places unlike the world they live in. My students are craving new books to read. I would love to be able to give that to my students but our school does not have the funds for classroom libraries. Our school is trying to implement the best writing and reading curriculum and has focused this summer on training their teachers to start a workshop model for English Language Arts classes, but was unable to provide books for these classrooms. These eighth grade students would enjoy new books to read that could fulfill their minds and engage them in reading to make them lifelong learners.
