My students are much like the main character Travis in this novel-on the brink of young adulthood. They struggle with the gap between childhood and maturity-such is the life of a 6th grader! We are a rural school, filled with a mixture of farm kids and town kids alike. Our school is much like a small community with families looking out for one another. The socioeconomic status of our families qualifies our building for Title 1 status.
