As a special education teacher working with developmentally disabled children kindergarten through second grade I will have twelve students this year. Seven of my twelve students will be entering school this August as kindergarteners. Most of my students have assistive and augmentative communication needs. In other words, of my five returning students from last year, only one has language that all adults and children can easily understand. Some of my students have Down's syndrome and are just beginning to learn to speak aloud. Some of my students have physical disabilities that make learning to form words challenging.
