Our 7th grade students are creative and inquisitive. They love socializing with their friends and they are beginning to see the big picture and think about the world they live. The story of Malala is especially meaningful for 7th grade students, as students grow there is an emphasis on external beauty and pressure to fit into certain stereotypes. Malala is a young woman who stands out because of her willingness to stand up for her beliefs. She reflects confidence in her stance. Some students do not naturally have this same level of conviction, and this portrait project is designed to allow students to encourage each other and see the power and strength in each other.
