My students are 4 and 5 years old, full of life, and love school. My school has spent the majority of their money on literacy and math programs that coincides with the SMART board. I feel these programs are lacking all necessary materials to ensure a deeper understanding. I have no leveled books for children to practice and read independently. When I worked in Brooklyn previously, we had an abundance of books because we didn't use an expensive program. Books were our program. Children were able to take 10 leveled books a week! They learned to read quietly, discuss books with partners and become great readers. I want to be able to do that again. If I could ask for 1000 books I would!
