The materials I am requesting are novels for reading and manipulatives for math. Our district requires us to use an adopted reading curriculum, which also has suggestions for novel studies, which are sadly not provided. The students will use these novels, "The Dark Is Rising" in literature circles in order to make connections between learned reading strategies and authentic reading. Likewise, the math manipulatives help students develop a concrete understanding of math concepts in order to help them transfer those ideas from concrete ideas to abstract ones. These will be a great resource to use for small group instruction in my math centers to help my students develop an understanding of geometry & number line concepts. By supporting this project, you will help provide authentic learning experiences for my 6th-grade students. Even students in the upper grades need good literature and hands-on experiences with math. These materials will greatly support all students, but especially my struggling students that need access to authentic learning. Thank you so much for your support!
