Altering student seating arrangements can have several beneficial effects in a special education classroom. It can increase participation and academic performance, while decreasing inappropriate behavior. It also makes learning FUN! By purchasing the portable lap desks and donut balls, my students will be able to choose which seating option will work best for them on a daily basis. This will allow my students to take ownership of their education. Currently, my students have regular classroom chairs and fidget all day, which leads to inappropriate behavior. Once a child feels like they have control of their learning, they will want to learn and become engaged. This will also give them the movement and sensory input they need to self regulate themselves.
