I am a high school art teacher in one of the toughest high schools in the county. Gang violence and poverty are constantly a battle for our students. Despite the seemingly desperateness of our school, our students are happy to be here and respectful to their teachers. I have found some of the most amazing children working at this school. They do not give up, they are hard working and determine. They may not always make good decisions, but I consider it to be a personal challenge and goal to assist my students in making better choices and teaching them how to deal with the cards they have been dealt.
