All of my students are reading below grade level. Many of them feel overwhelmed when they are asked to pick out a book in the library. Many hav told me they can't find a book they will like or it's too long. Many of my students look at the amount of pages to decide if they want to read the book. The book at their reading level may also not interest them. Magazines are the perfect option for reluctant, below grade level readers. They are not overwhelming in length. The topics in the Scholastic magazines will interest my students since there will be a variety. They will also be receiving new editions throughout the year so they will always have something to read and enjoy!
