We are an orchestra made up of very talented 6th, 7th, 8th graders. The oldest group is shown in the photo after participation in our state evaluation. They look so happy and excited because they worked so hard to perform at their best to score the highest rating that day. My students yearn to have discipline and order in their daily lives and are often picked at for being an orchestra member. Others deem it as not so "cool", but they are taught to share the benefits of participation with those who pick at them. Super intelligent and daring best describes the group. The school climate represents several under-privileged families. Several "diamonds in the rough" if you will. However, there is a great focus on participation in fine arts. Support comes from the principal and trickles all the way down. However, many students are not encouraged by parents to participate because of the fear of costs associated with participation. The school serves an inner city population.
