My students come from a low poverty area where about 80% of them are economically disadvantage. Many come from single parent homes or homes with extended family. A good amount of the students come to school with little to nothing. Most of the time school is their second home. They enjoy being able to have interaction with their peers and teachers through learning. I have students who want to become artists, doctors, veterinarians, law enforcement, and teachers. Literacy is the foundation for them to become what they want to be in the future! The school provides a limited amount of resources and it is up to teachers to come up with activities that will promote a fun learning experience for literacy.
