I would describe my school as a multicultural school. We have 75% of the children on free and reduced lunch. We have many children in shelters and in foster care. Many of the children come from homes where both parents do not speak English and the children have to translate for them. Unfortunately many of the children come from broken homes. As a teacher at this school, I do not only help my students with their academics but also I help them develop coping strategies to deal with their everyday lives. A lot of these students come with no supplies and I am constantly going out and buying things for my students. I have also bought clothing for my students. My students are the sweetest children. They love school and they feel safe and secure when they are in school. School is a constant for them as I am a constant for them also. I teach kindergarten and most of my students do not go to preschool so this is their first school experience.
