There is no better way to experience learning about science, than to be engaged in hands on experiments that mimic what is going on in an actual science lab. My gifted/high achieving 4th and 5th graders have experienced everything from observations of bread mold, learning about the different types and properties of rocks and minerals to creating roller coasters that test speed, velocity and different types of energy. Part of participating in science labs is being safe in the classroom. My students desperately need safety goggles as well as lab coats to minimize accidents, and promote a safe learning environment. Additionally, using the rocks and minerals kit will enhance our unit on the Rock Cycle by giving them an opportunity to have actual specimens to test. My goal throughout the year is to inspire a love of science through hands on learning opportunities. Sometimes just using a textbook doesn't give my students what they need to fully comprehend the concepts. However, when engaged in cooperative labs in the class, science comes alive through experiments. Thank you for helping to get the resources we need.
