We have a very diverse group of students who need a variety of instructional strategies. Many students do not read on grade level. I am a 4th grade teacher and we really need to get their reading level up to 4th grade by the end of the year! I have been teaching for only three years. The first year, of course, was the toughest. The group had many anger management issues as well as behavior issues. However, they are also willing to learn, if I can find a way that reaches them without hurting their pride. Our school population is currently at a very high percentage of free and reduced lunch status. We were state mandated to start Breakfast in the classroom at the end of last year and will continue this year. The need is great and the Title 1 money only goes so far. As many students around the globe, they are eager to help each other, their teachers and themselves.They often do not understand how to accomplish this and due to a high fight or flight reaction, many problems ensue.
