The first graders in my class are kind, helpful, curious and learners. Throughout this school year we have focused on two main themes that have helped build a community of students who work as a team in order to learn and accomplish goals. Team Work: The students love doing everything and anything as a team or in partnership. They set plans and ask each other questions to make sure everyone is included and working together. Their absolute favorite time of each day is Read to Someone and Math with a Partner. These are the times of the day when the students are the most engaged. The Power of Yet / Dreaming Big: If we can’t do something in our classroom, we always put a “yet” after it. They often say to one another: “Don’t give up”, “Work your hardest”, “It’s the power of yet”, or “Believe in yourself.” The students have taken ownership over their work ethic and truly believe all of their dreams can come true with hard work.
