I am in my tenth year as a 6th grade teacher in an inner city elementary school. For many of my students school is a safe zone, a sanctuary, a break, and a place where they can be a child and be themselves. I strive to make my classroom as comfortable and welcoming for my students as possible, however due to the low socio-economic status of the neighborhood my school is in many items I would love to provide for my students are financially out of reach.
