My amazing 8th grade students need more access to informational text. The majority of them receive their information about the world from the internet. Although the internet has a plethora of information on it, not all of that information is a reliable research resource. My students deserve proper research materials. My students need up-to-date information that does not begin with a # (hashtag). The 2 sets of Britannica Student Encyclopedias and a Junior Scholastic classroom magazine subscription I am requesting will be resources in my classroom for research and reading. Students will increase their literacy skills through reading for both research and interest. Many of my students do not have access to the internet on a regular basis, nor is my classroom stocked with 1 to 1 computers.
