The school I teach at is a low income school in Ohio. The students are below grade level and have IEP's. They are a wonderful group of children who just need extra help to learn the materials. They need extra time, extra love and more hands on learning. They need to be able to move around and get into the lesson instead of just sitting there listening. Most of my students have not had a school experience so far and need to know that just because they do not get it the first time around, they are not dumb, they just learn in a different way. I try to make sure that when they come to my room they feel successful and can even help others to succeed in some way. I try to use those good at math to help those who need help, etc. The best way to learn something is to teach it to someone else, and this also helps with their self esteem.
