All children are capable of learning! Some of my students enjoy having alternatives to the traditional style of sitting in a desk. By providing a variety of seating options such as the wobble seats, portable chairs, or wiggle cushions, my students will have the opportunity to work while also being able to move or sit in a quiet space. I believe kids will choose a work environment and seating options that work best for them. Giving them a choice within their learning environment increases the amount of time they are engaged. Fidgeting is always present in a classroom. By allowing kids to use items that keep their hands or feet busy such as the kick bands, putty, and hand fidgets, their attention is focused on the teacher or their classmates. Fidgets like the weighted snake and dogs allow students who may otherwise disengage to remain with their peers in a learning environment. As children are being held to higher standards and are expected to sit and attend for longer periods of time, having sensory items has become necessary. I would love to be able to give my students the freedom to learn in a comfortable and open classroom. Thank you for considering my project!
