Students in my AVID classes are often seeking to become first-generation college students. These students are often identified as "the students in the middle" in terms of academic performance, however, they have tremendous drive and ambition to achieve their college dreams. AVID helps support these students in building foundational critical thinking and analysis skills, supporting students in rigorous academic work such as AP and IB classes, refine WICOR skills, provide college information and application support, and ultimately be a place where students are able to make college a reality rather than a dream. While students maintain a high level of commitment to AVID and its rigorous but supportive environment, many of my students are also involved in various extracurricular activities including sports, dance, band, orchestra, theater, etc. Students are constantly fundraising in order to take field trips to visit various colleges and take part in several hours of community service.
